Valentine’s Day will soon be here. It’s a special day of the year where many of us show love and appreciation to someone special in our lives.

Many will buy flowers, candy and jewelry to express their love while some will go out to a restaurant for a Valentine’s dinner. Another option, you could cook a great meal and have a romantic dinner at home.

Lobster is a favorite of mine. Some might be intimidated in cooking lobster, but it’s very simple. Some people say boil it, but I prefer steaming. If you have a steamer pot, this is so easy.

At the local store, live lobster is between $8.99 and $13.99/lb. depending on the size of the lobster. You should be able to easily steam two 1 to 1 1/2 lb. lobsters in an 8 qt. steamer pot for less than the price of one lobster dinner in a restaurant. I made the entire meal in the photograph in 15 minutes. So, you can surprise someone special by steaming some lobster for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Lobster
Ready in: 15 min

Ingredients:
Live lobster
Salt

Directions:

1. Using a steamer pot large enough to hold the lobster you want to steam, place just enough water (1-2 inches) in the bottom of the pot and add a tsp. of salt. The lobster should not be sitting in water. Cover the pot and bring to a rapid boil.
2. Place your lobster(s) in the pot, cover and steam for 7 minutes per pound of lobster.
3. Do not overcook, watch the time well and remove from the pot immediately after the desired time has been reached.
4. Serve with melted butter, the tails and claws have delicious meat in them. You can tear the tail off and slice the tail open with a sharp knife to remove the meat. The claws can be cracked open and the meat removed. Enjoy!
