Smores galore! Wow your friends with variations of summer staple

Few things help one unwind quicker after a busy day than some open flames, marshmallows, graham crackers and a hunk of chocolate or two.
Where possible, more and more people are enjoying backyard campfires, using them as the perfect excuse to invite over friends and family and unplug from the rest of the world.

And while simply sitting near a campfire and watching the flames flicker into the nighttime sky can be therapeutic in its own right, incorporating some tasty comfort food can really add to the experience.

Hence the Smore, a time-tested snack that is simple to make yet complex in flavor. Simply roast a marshmallow over the flames to the desired consistency of brownness (or blackness for those with less patience) and then press the melted mallow against some chocolate between two graham crackers.

Too simple for your taste? There are countless variations of Smores popping up at campfires across the country. You can replace the chocolate bar with a peanut butter cup.

Or a peppermint patty. Or Kit-Kat. Or other candy creation you may think would taste sweet with melted marshmallow. Some spread Nutella in place of the chocolate.

Others have replaced the graham cracker exterior with a variety of options. Like large chocolate chip cookies, muffin tops, Oreo or oatmeal raisin cookies, biscuits, English muffins, etc.

Additions to the main three ingredients run as far as the imagination can go. Strawberries, jelly, peanut butter, cookie dough, bacon, bananas, brownies and so much more. Maybe that is why they are called Smores?

And if you want to break free from the concept of Smores … you’ll absolutely love the campfire eclair!
